A trousseau gets planned around sarees, jewellery and outfits for a dozen functions - and nightwear is often the last thing added, right before the wedding, when there's the least time to think it through. Here's a simple way to plan it properly.
The wedding night piece
This is usually the most delicate item in the edit: a satin or georgette nighty or two-piece gown set, often in a soft or jewel colour rather than stark white or red. Look for a fabric that photographs well and feels good against the skin for hours, not just minutes - satin and lined georgette both hold up well here.
The honeymoon edit
Pack for the actual climate and activity, not just the aesthetic. A kaftan works for both a beach honeymoon and lounging in a hotel room. For anywhere hot and humid, at least one or two cotton or cotton-blend nighties are worth packing alongside the satin pieces - they're what you'll actually reach for after a long day of travel.
The everyday-after edit
This is the part most trousseaus skip, and it's arguably the most used: comfortable pajama sets and cotton nighties for the months of ordinary married life after the wedding season ends. Two or three well-made cotton sets will get more wear in the first year than most of the occasion pieces combined.
A simple quantity guide
As a rough starting point: one to two special-occasion pieces (satin or georgette, for the wedding night and honeymoon), two to three resort or travel pieces (kaftans or lightweight sets), and three or more everyday cotton pieces for life after the celebrations wind down. Adjust up or down based on climate and how soon a proper wardrobe refresh is planned.
The occasion pieces are what get photographed, but it's the everyday ones that get worn the most - it's worth giving both categories real thought, not just the one that looks good in the trousseau reveal.
